Gabrielle (Eva Longoria Parker) and her Latino gardener John (Metcalfe) have a fling in Desperate Housewives

Hyams, whose directing efforts include Outland, Capricorn One and End Of Days, explained it was Metcalfe’s passion that convinced him he’d found his lead. “He struck me as exactly the right person for this film because he has a kind of sweetness about him, and then he has an edge about him, and the part calls for both,” said Hyams in production notes provided by the film’s local distributor Tayangan Unggul.
For his role, Metcalfe researched crime movies and series, and took a few weeks to rehearse his role.
“Every role is different and I like to ensure I’m fully prepared for it. I had a few rehearsals with Amber (Tamblyn) and several meetings with Peter (Hyams) to discuss the story outline,” said Metcalfe, who cites award-winning Jack Nicholson and Daniel Day Lewis as his favourite actors.
Metcalfe was also raring to work on the project because of his affinity for Douglas.
“I grew up watching Michael’s movies and have always looked up to him. Working with Michael was a blessing as he was always accommodating and friendly. He carries himself with a certain swagger and has a way of making everyone feel comfortable,” said the handsome actor, who owes his good looks to his Italian, French and Portuguese parentage.
Metcalfe was born in California and grew up in Waterford, Connecticut. After studying at New York University and at the famed Tisch School of the Arts, he modelled in the United States and Europe. In 1999, he joined daytime drama Passions and in 2003, made two guest appearances on TV series Smallville.
In 2004, he began acting on Desperate Housewives. The same year, USA Today named him “Desperate Housewives’ hottest sex symbol”.
Metcalfe was a regular on the show’s first season and guest starred in Seasons Two, Three and Four. In Season Six (which premiered in the United States on Sept 27), he reprises his role as an older and more mature John. Online encyclopaedia wikipedia.com reports that in the new season, Gabrielle’s troublesome niece Ana (Maiara Walsh) sets her sights on him, which, of course, upsets Gabrielle.
“In the upcoming season, John is 27-year-old man. He has moved forward and has had some life experiences. There are some great scenes lined up and it’s going to be great working with the cast again,” said Metcalfe, an accomplished guitarist and fan of New England/New York basketball teams – the Patriots and the Knicks.
Next up, Metcalfe will star in Robert Lieberman’s psychological revenge thriller Tortured. In the movie, he plays a father who abducts a ruthless paedophile after the latter kidnaps and kills his only child. The movie, currently in post-production stage, co-stars Erika Christensen and Bill Moseley.
