California Sports AP News

Cliff Lee dominated the Dodgers, Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth provided the big swings early and the Philadelphia Phillies cruised past Los Angeles 11-0 last night for a 2-1 lead in the National League Championship Series
Lee provided another brilliant playoff start, striking out 10 and allowing only three hits in eight innings.
Howard hustled for a triple and Werth homered as the Phillies took a 6-0 lead in the second inning. Howard has an RBI in all seven of Philadelphia's playoff games this year.
Coming off their most-lopsided win in postseason history, the defending World Series champion Phillies will play Game 4 tonight.
Joe Blanton will start against the Dodgers' Randy Wolf.
DODGERS-KURODA FLOPS Kuroda gets only 4 outs against Phillies
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Hiroki Kuroda's (hih-ROH'-kee kuh-ROH'-duh's) first start of the postseason for Los Angeles was a bitterly brief one.
Two singles, a double, a triple, a home run. Philadelphia hit for the team cycle only eight batters into Game 3 of the National League Championships Series, battering Kuroda last night and sending him to the dugout after only recording four outs.
Manager Joe Torre's gamble on Kuroda backfired in an 11-0 loss.
ALCS Down 0-2, Angels counting on California comeback
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Torii Hunter grabbed his hat, tied his spikes and headed out of Los Angeles' home clubhouse into the abundant sunshine and cool breezes of Angel Stadium.
The Angels' unofficial captain said with a grin yesterday, "Now I can work on my tan again."
His Angels are undeniably in trouble after two nights of horrible weather and messier baseball in New York, where the Yankees took a 2-0 lead over their error-prone opponents in the American League Championship Series.
Yet the Angels say they're far from finished going into today's Game 3, insisting they can warm back up with the fundamentally sound play that got them to the ALCS after a difficult season.
If they don't quickly reclaim that California cool, the Yankees could be headed to the World Series by tomorrow night.
EAGLES-RAIDERS Raiders overpower Eagles 13-9
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Oakland Raiders provided an emphatic answer to the skeptics dishing out barbs the last few weeks.
Louis Murphy threw two key blocks to spring Zach Miller's 86-yard touchdown catch, Justin Fargas ran for 87 yards and Oakland's defense harassed Donovan McNabb all day in the Raiders' 13-9 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday.
The result was one of the more shocking ones so far this season since the Raiders had lost three consecutive games by at least 20 points for the first time in franchise history and failed to reach 200 yards of offense the past four.
The Eagles had also been second in the league in points per game.
EAGLES-RAIDERS INJURIES Eagles, Raiders lose key players
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Both the Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles lost key players midway through the first quarter of their game yesterday.
Eagles left tackle Jason Peters limped to the sideline with assistance at the 7:20 mark after he blocked Oakland defensive tackle Tommy Kelly and another player rolled up his leg.
He was taken to the locker room for observation on his left knee and was replaced by King Dunlap.
Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (NAHM'-dee AH'-som-wah) was lying down on a table behind the bench being examined by several members of the medical staff.
